- Boko Haram bombers attacked the University of Maiduguri again - A female hostel was targeted in the attack - One of the guards in the institution was badly affected Boko Haram suicide bombers launched two separate attacks at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) leaving a guard at the institution badly injured. The Punch reports that the attacks were carried out on the night of Thursday, May 18 and in the early morning of Friday, May 19. Abu Babati who is the president of the student union government of the university confirmed the attack.
He said one of the bombers was accosted by a soldier stationed around the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and was shot at after detonating his bomb. The other attack occurred around BOT Hostel which is a female hostel in the early hours of Friday. Yusuf Ibrahim who is a student at UNIMAID said a security guard station at the hostel was badly injured and was left lifeless after the attack. FUNTY BLOG earlier reported that a similar attack occoured at the institution when the attacker entered the University through the back gate with the aim of penetrating the school before being gunned down dead by a vigilant soldier. NAIJ.com learnt that public relations officer of the school, Mr Tanko Ahmed, also confirmed the botched attack on the institution. The spokesperson said the incident occurred around 11pm on Sunday night, April 9. He said the works department where the incident occurred has been cordoned off by security agents to render the area safe.
