PDM in deep crisis allegedly over Atiku Abubakar's ambition

- The two major political parties in Nigeria, the PDP and the ruling APC, are having their share of internal wranglings which may not be resolved soon - A third political party has broken into factions again because of the reported presidential ambition of Atiku Abubakar, a member of the APC Two factions have reportedly emerged in the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) as its leadership crisis continue to worsen after the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) set up a 13-member national caretaker committee. The NEC was said to have dissolved all the national principal officers for allegedly compromising on the oath to which they subscribed.

Though a member of the APC, Atiku Abubakar's alleged presidential ambition is reportedly behind the crisis[/caption] Daily Trust reports that the Munir Garba Waziri-led caretaker committee of the party with members from the six geo-political zones is to spend three three months. This is to enable it work out modalities to host a national convention where new leaders of the party would be elected. The report quoted a communiqué issued by the party's NEC and read by the secretary of the national caretaker committee, Ifeanyi Igwe, as demanding from the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, a probe of the conduct of the sacked national chairman, Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim.
